The socialist spokesperson in the Málaga City Council, Mariano Ruiz Araujo, presented his pre-candidacy for the PSOE primaries for the mayoralty on Friday, with an event in the Centre and a speech focused on housing, mobility, and neighbourhoods.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group in the Málaga City Council, Mariano Ruiz Araujo, formalised his pre-candidacy on Friday to run in the PSOE primaries for the mayoralty of the capital. According to Diario Sur, the announcement was made during a meeting in a tavern in the Centre, where he was accompanied by party colleagues.

Ruiz Araujo justified his decision by the need to "open a new chapter in Málaga" and build an alternative capable of facing the city's challenges. In his speech, he acknowledged the progress of the capital but warned that "a city cannot be satisfied with growth if that growth does not improve the lives of those who live and work in it".

The pre-candidate identified access to housing, mobility, and the care of neighbourhoods as key challenges. "We need to ensure that Málaga becomes a city where we can find housing, where moving around is not becoming increasingly difficult, and where we take care of our neighbourhoods so that they remain neighbourhoods: recognisable, lively, and with their own identity," he stated.

"Today we take the first step. We want to listen, add, and build together the Málaga of the future. We are going to turn Málaga around."

The formalisation of the pre-candidacy opens a new phase in the socialist primary process. Ruiz Araujo assures that he faces the path "with ideas, a lot of enthusiasm, and also a lot of work ahead," aiming to unite the party and subsequently build a social majority that will drive a new project for the capital.
