The Málaga City Council will place a giant screen on Sunday, July 19, at the Auditorio Cortijo de Torres. Entry will be free, but prior registration is required to control capacity.

The Málaga City Council has announced the installation of a giant screen at the Auditorio Cortijo de Torres so that fans can watch live the World Cup final that the Spanish team will play next Sunday, July 19. The Councillor for Sports, Borja Vivas, has confirmed that the municipal venue will host this event with free entry, although prior registration will be necessary to control capacity.

“We are going to put a giant screen in the Auditorio Cortijo de Torres so that people can watch the match,” Vivas explained this Wednesday. The councillor highlighted that the measure aims to provide a safe and orderly meeting point for Málaga residents who want to experience the final together. Registrations will open in the coming days through the municipal website, according to this newspaper.

Capacity Control and Safety Measures

The councillor justified the need for prior registration: “Because otherwise, it could get a bit out of hand.” The capacity of the auditorium, located in the Teatinos area, will be limited to ensure the comfort and safety of attendees. The City Council has not specified the exact number of places, but municipal sources indicate that the usual outdoor concert space will be made available.

Additionally, Vivas did not rule out placing barriers at some roundabouts in the city centre in case spontaneous celebrations occur after the match. “We have experience, because we have lived those moments with Málaga, so it will help us if Spain wins,” the councillor noted, referring to the promotions and stays of the blue-and-white club.

Background and Local Context

Málaga has already been the scene of large gatherings on previous occasions, such as the 2015 Copa del Rey final or the promotions of Málaga CF. On those occasions, the City Council set up screens in the Plaza de la Constitución and at Malagueta beach. This time, the choice of the Auditorio Cortijo de Torres responds to the need for a spacious yet controlled area, away from the hustle and bustle of the historic centre.

For the residents of the capital, the giant screen offers an alternative to fan clubs and bars, which have already begun to receive reservations. The municipal initiative aims to prevent overcrowding in small venues and provide a free option for families. The match will start at 21:00 hours, peninsula time, and the auditorium is expected to open its doors at least two hours beforehand.

Recommendations for Attendees

The City Council recommends arriving early, using public transport, and wearing warm clothing, as July nights in Málaga can be cool in the auditorium area. A bar service with affordable prices will also be provided. Attendees must present their registration in digital or printed format to access the venue.

If Spain is crowned champion, the City Council plans to activate a special cleaning and security device for the subsequent celebrations. For now, the plan for barriers in the centre is on the table, waiting to see how the euphoria evolves. What is clear is that Málaga is preparing for a historic night.
