The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, has announced the start of the deadline to apply for aid to compensate for losses in almond farms due to the frosts experienced at the end of March and the beginning of April 2026.
These subsidies are aimed at holders of farms in the provinces of Almería, Granada, Jaén and Málaga, and the deadline for submitting applications will begin tomorrow, Thursday, October 8. The call has a total budget of ten million euros, financed by the Junta de Andalucía, and will be open for 10 working days.
Impact of the frosts on production
Between March 29 and April 2, very low temperatures were recorded that severely affected the flowering of almond trees at a critical moment in the development of the crop. According to Fernández-Pacheco, this phenomenon has resulted in the total loss of flowering and, consequently, of the fruit.
The aid is designed to compensate those farms that have suffered losses of at least 30% of their almond production due to the frosts, with the aim of maintaining agricultural activity, ensuring employment, and revitalising the local economy.
Amount and requirements of the aid
The amount of the aid will be calculated based on the affected area, as well as the unit values per hectare established in the regulatory bases. The amount will not exceed 50,000 euros per beneficiary. Specifically, 84.3 euros per hectare is set for dryland almonds and 305.4 euros for irrigated ones. In organic farms, the aid is 174 euros per hectare for dryland and 637.5 euros for irrigated.
Producers wishing to apply for this aid must complete an online procedure and submit a damage report prepared by an independent technician who verifies losses of at least 30% of production. If they have agricultural insurance, they must also include the relevant documents signed by Agroseguro.
