The Regional University Hospital of Málaga held the second conference of the II Talks HRUM Cycle on October 5, 2026. This event took place at the Centre Pompidou and aimed to bring the community closer to advancements in the local health and scientific fields.
Conference on sexually transmitted infections
Under the title 'Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs): Increasing Incidence', the main speaker, Manuel Castaño Carracedo, a specialist from the hospital's Infectious Diseases Service, addressed the rising incidence of these infections.
Castaño highlighted the importance of early detection and healthcare in risky situations, given that some STIs may not initially show symptoms. During the talk, the essential role of healthcare was emphasized in enabling timely diagnosis and starting appropriate treatment.
Additionally, the main prevention measures were reviewed, and the need to maintain adequate information about sexual health was stressed. The specialist urged the population to avoid risky behaviours and to consult professionals with any doubts related to these infections.
“The persistence of sexually transmitted infections represents a healthcare and public health challenge. Prevention is crucial, but it is also necessary to lose the fear of consulting. An early diagnosis allows for effective treatment, prevention of complications, and interruption of transmission,” stated Castaño.
Upcoming events in the series
The next conference in the Talks HRUM series will take place on November 4 in the same venue and will focus on 'The Use of Screens in Paediatrics and Adults'. This session will be led by María Vidal Denis, a specialist in Radiology and neuroradiology at the hospital, who will explore the use of devices and screens in different age groups, as well as guidelines for proper disconnection.
