The Municipal Housing Institute of Málaga activates from July 13 the registration for 377 protected rental homes in the University sector, with rents starting from 446 euros per month. Applications will be processed online until July 31.
Those interested in accessing a protected home in Málaga capital have a new opportunity starting this Monday. The Municipal Housing Institute (IMV) has opened the application period for 377 VPO for rent located in the University sector, with rents starting at 446.28 euros per month. The registration period will be open from 00:00 hours on July 13 until 23:59 hours on July 31.
The homes are distributed across two promotions: the R11 plot, with 175 apartments, and the R12, with 202. All of them include a garage and storage room, and are promoted by Lagoom Living under an agreement with the Málaga City Council. Registration is done exclusively through the IMV website, and each family unit can submit one application for each promotion.
Adjusted rents and varied types
In the R11 plot, rents range from 495 to 624 euros per month, plus community fees. Of the 175 homes, 136 have two bedrooms (seven adapted for reduced mobility) and 39 have three bedrooms. In R12, rents range from 446.28 to 511.55 euros; here there are 186 two-bedroom apartments (eight adapted) and 16 one-bedroom apartments, one of which is for people in a situation of dependency.
These promotions are part of the second phase of the development of the University sector, where the construction of 1,006 VPO for rent is planned. The City Council has already launched another 476 protected homes in the same area, three of which are under construction and two have already been completed.
European and municipal financing
The project is based on an agreement signed in November 2022 between the City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, and the Government of Spain, which granted a subsidy of up to 26.5 million euros. Of that amount, 25.6 million comes from the EU's Next Generation funds. The City Council provides the land, valued at 13.6 million, while Lagoom Living invests 59.3 million from its own funds and ICO credit.
For the residents of Málaga, this offer represents a relief in a strained rental market. The homes are located near the university campus and metro line 2, facilitating mobility. However, it is advisable to hurry: the period is short and demand is high.
Applications will be resolved through a public draw, the dates of which will be announced soon on the IMV website. Those who are awarded must prove family income that does not exceed the limits established for VPO.
