A Historic Record at the Málaga Fair
Málaga Metro achieved a significant milestone during the Málaga Fair 2026 by recording a total of 402,131 users from August 15 to 22. This figure represents a 9.4% increase compared to the 2025 fair, which recorded 367,503 passengers.
Mario Muñoz-Atanet, Councillor for Development and Mobility, highlighted the achievement, stating that this growth consolidates the use of the metro as an accessible means of transport to the fair, especially since the lines reached the historic centre in 2023.
Increase in Demand During the Fair
The rise in the number of travellers translates to an average of 40,213 users per day, reflecting an improvement compared to previous fairs. In 2024, the metro lines were used by 377,769 passengers, and in 2023, by 337,273.
The day with the highest demand was the Night of the Fireworks, where 62,979 travellers were recorded, a growth of 30.8% compared to 2025. Other notable dates were Thursday and Tuesday, with 45,370 and 45,147 users, respectively.
The data shows that on eight of the ten analysed days, demand was positive, highlighting a 46.3% increase on Tuesday compared to the previous year and an 11.3% rise on Monday.
During the Fair, Málaga Metro adapts its service by implementing special schedules and reinforcing transport during peak hours to facilitate movement and meet the growing demand of travellers.
The addition of the Guadalmedina and Atarazanas stations in March 2023 has improved access to the fairgrounds and significantly changed mobility during the Málaga Fair, as evidenced by the number of users choosing the metro as their transport option.
Since its operations began in July 2014, Málaga Metro has transported over 109 million travellers, establishing itself as a fundamental element of public transport in the capital.
