The Local Police of Málaga has carried out a control operation on rental vehicles with drivers (VTC) during the summer, resulting in the immobilisation of 19 vehicles and the imposition of 21 fines. This intervention is part of the second phase of the 'Legitimate Transport' operation, conducted between June and August.
Results of the operation
During this phase of the operation, more than 1,300 inspections were carried out in various areas such as the coastline, the city centre, the airport, and the Real del Cortijo de Torres. The operation was intensified during the Fair, achieving nearly 600 inspections during that period.
The fines issued include nine cases of starting service in an unauthorised area, which carries a penalty of 1,001 euros and the immobilisation of the vehicle. Additionally, 12 infractions were recorded for lack of a valid licence for vehicle rental, with penalties of 4,001 euros and also the immobilisation of the vehicle. Furthermore, an individual is being investigated as a suspected perpetrator of a document forgery offence.
New fraudulent practices
During the operation, officers identified a fraudulent practice where those involved acquire second-hand vehicles that previously had a licence to operate as VTC in Andalusian municipalities. This procedure involves maintaining the VTC markings and transferring a licence from another autonomous community, where prices are lower, while using the vehicle to conduct their activity in Andalusia.
The Investigation and Protection Group of the Local Police of Málaga continues to investigate these fraudulent practices and plans to inform the competent authorities, with the aim of considering the possibility of any criminal offence being derived.
