The spokesperson for the PP and number two in the municipal government resigns as a councillor in the extraordinary plenary session this Wednesday. The mayor, Paco de la Torre, revealed that her departure is due to her desire to become a mother.

The PP councillor in Málaga City Council Elisa Pérez de Siles formally submitted her resignation as a councillor in an extraordinary plenary session on Wednesday, as reported by Diario Sur. The former spokesperson for the government team and the popular group leaves municipal politics after nearly two decades in the Corporation.

The mayor, Paco de la Torre, revealed during his speech the reason for her departure: "When you reach a certain age and want to be a mother, it is difficult to continue in politics." The now former councillor, who had wanted to keep her pregnancy private, formalised her resignation on September 3 at the General Secretariat of the City Council.

The session, which was extraordinary but not urgent, served to inform the Corporation of her resignation. De la Torre reviewed her time in charge of the areas of Commerce, Business Activity, Procurement and Purchasing, and the districts of Campanillas, Bailén, and Miraflores. The mayor highlighted that during this time they had worked in "cohesion" and that as spokesperson she had been able to "share the game".

Spokespersons from all municipal groups dedicated words of recognition to the outgoing councillor. The spokesperson for Con Málaga, Nicolás Sguiglia, described her as "a sensitive, smart, and combative lioness with her ideas". The spokesperson for Vox, Antonio Alcázar, praised her "respect, dedication, and public service vocation". The socialist Mariano Ruiz Araujo commended her "commitment, enthusiasm, fervour, and work capacity" and quoted Tolkien: "I will not say do not weep, for not all tears are of sorrow."

"I leave behind almost two decades of my passionate life"

In her farewell, Pérez de Siles thanked her collaborators and recalled a maxim passed on to her by her mentor, Elías Bendodo: "To be a good politician, one must be a good person." The councillor for Urbanism, Carmen Casero, will assume the spokesperson role for the popular group from now on.
