The second day of the Absolute Championship in Málaga has crowned eleven athletes as national champions. The wind affected some events, but the stadium had a great atmosphere.
The Málaga stadium experienced a thrilling afternoon and evening on Saturday with eleven finals of the Absolute Championship of athletics. Despite the wind that marked the day, the athletes delivered a high level of competition, with standout performances and close battles for the titles.
The highlight of the session was the women's 400 meters, where Madrid's Blanca Hervás triumphed by a hundredth over Paula Sevilla, with a time of 52.31. The excitement lasted until the last meter, and Ana Prieto, the under-23 champion, took bronze with 53.00.
In the men's 400 meters category, 22-year-old Ángel González was crowned Spanish champion with 45.91, the most important victory of his career. Asabu Pines (45.99) and David García Zurita (46.20) completed the podium, while the previous champion, Bernat Erta, finished fifth.
The women's 400 meters hurdles saw the triumphant return of Sara Gallego, who secured her sixth national title with 55.78, having not won since 2022. Carla García (56.49) repeated her silver, and Daniela Fra could not defend her crown, settling for bronze (57.11).
In the men's event, Jesús David Delgado achieved his third consecutive title with 49.73, prevailing in the last 200 meters. Víctor Blanco (50.38) took silver and Diego Santidrián (50.97) bronze.
The women's heptathlon featured María Vicente as the standout performer, who claimed her second consecutive title (third in her career) with 6174 points, although she could not break her own Spanish record. Sofía Cosculluela (6019) and Andrea Medina (5775) joined her on the podium.
In the men's 5000 meters, Eduardo Menacho took the title with 13:59.36, achieving a double win with the 10,000 meters, a feat only previously accomplished by Haro, Amorós, or Coll. David de la Fuente (13:59.70) won silver and Abdessamad Oukhelfen (14:00.60) bronze.
The women's hammer throw crowned young Andrea Sales, 19, with a throw of 66.10 on her fourth attempt, surpassing Laura Redondo, champion for six consecutive editions, who took silver with 65.88. Natalia Sánchez won bronze with 60.55.
Marta Serrano defended her title in the 3000 meters steeplechase with 9:40.26, securing her third national championship at just 23 years old. The race was marked by her dominance from the start.
The Absolute Championship of Spain in Málaga is supported by the Málaga City Council, the Junta de Andalucía, and the Málaga Provincial Council. The final day will take place this Sunday with new finals and the closing of the event.
