In Málaga, the school vaccination against flu continues to progress with the participation of educational and health authorities. The delegate for Health and Consumption, Lucía Yeves, and the delegate for Education, Miguel Briones, visited the CEIP Pintor Félix Revello de Toro to check on the development of this campaign.
Since the start, more than 43,404 children aged between 3 and 4 years have received the flu vaccine in schools across Andalucía. This strategy aims to protect the most vulnerable groups, as well as reduce the transmission of the virus.
Importance of vaccination in childhood
Lucía Yeves has emphasised the importance of vaccinating children, as they are a group at risk of severe complications if they contract the flu. Furthermore, children are considered an important vector for transmission.
For his part, Miguel Briones has encouraged parents to authorise vaccination in schools, highlighting that an intranasal vaccine is used, which avoids traditional injections. This procedure is free and only requires parental consent.
Start of vaccination for those over 70
From today, vaccination against flu and COVID-19 also begins for those over 70 years old and adults with chronic conditions. The campaign will expand from 21 October to include people aged 60 and over.
Since the start of the campaign on 1 October, 95,850 people from the targeted groups have been vaccinated and 35,065 in the COVID-19 campaign. Interested individuals are reminded to make an appointment at their health centre through the usual channels.
