95% of Early Childhood Students in Málaga to Receive Free Education in 2026/27

The start of the 2026/27 school year in Málaga will bring significant changes in the educational field. A 95% of the 17,417 children under three years old joining the province's Early Childhood Schools will benefit from free education, thanks to the recent expansion of this measure by the Junta de Andalucía.

Increase in Enrolment

This year, 17,417 boys and girls will begin the school year on September 3rd. This figure represents an increase of 513 students compared to the previous year, particularly notable in the one-year age group.

The enrolment distribution is detailed as follows: 1,145 children under one year, 7,064 one-year-olds, and 9,208 two-year-olds. It is worth noting that enrolment in the first cycle of early childhood education will remain open throughout the school year.

Promoting Early Schooling

The expansion of free early childhood education began last year, initially focusing on two-year-olds. This year, it extends to one-year-olds, and bonuses continue to be offered to families of zero-year-olds. Approximately 30% of the latter will also enjoy free education.

The Junta de Andalucía expects that total free education for zero-year-olds will be implemented in the 2027/28 school year, aiming to provide free education to all children in this educational cycle.
