Red Eléctrica de España has received the authorisations to upgrade the 400 kV line of the Tajo de la Encantada, which crosses four municipalities in Málaga. The works will last about two years, but will not increase the available electrical capacity.
Red Eléctrica de España has received the administrative and construction authorisations for the upgrade project of the overhead 400 kilovolt (kV) line of the Tajo de la Encantada, as reported by Diario Sur. The line crosses the provinces of Málaga, Granada and Almería, and in the Málaga territory, it affects the terms of Álora, Valle de Abdalajís, Antequera and Archidona.
The works consist of raising the towers, with additions of between three and seven metres depending on the point. A company spokesperson explains that this is "an upgrade included in the current planning," aimed at improving supply quality and reinforcing the transport network in southern Andalusia. The works are expected to last approximately two years.
The authorisation from the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines comes after a long process involving an Environmental Impact Declaration and numerous objections from bodies such as the State Agency for Air Safety, the Junta de Andalucía, or Adif Alta Velocidad. These bodies have set conditions for execution, which the company has already accepted.
Sources consulted by the newspaper indicate that the improvement strengthens the high voltage axes and allows support for the distribution network, although it does not increase capacity for new supplies. This is the main deficit in the province, where electrical congestion has blocked more than 140 projects residential, commercial, industrial and logistical.
To address this, the Secretary of State for Energy, Joan Groizard, announced new infrastructures at the beginning of October. The Proposal for the Planning of the Electrical Network until 2030, which is expected to be approved before the end of the year, includes two new substations and the expansion of a third: the Málaga Centro substation, of 220 kV, which still does not have a location and whose site corresponds to be sought by the City Council of Málaga and the Junta; a substation in Antequera for the Dry Port; and the expansion of the Cártama substation for the Technological Park and the Guadalhorce region.
