The Local Police of Alhaurín de la Torre has arrested three men aged between 25 and 28, residents of Córdoba, as the alleged perpetrators of the theft of telephone cabling on Las Eras street.
The events occurred in the early hours of July 13, when a night patrol responded to a citizen alert about a possible theft of cable from the telephone network on Las Eras street, at its intersection with Los Rocieros street. Upon arrival, the officers surprised two individuals, one of whom was climbing a pole, who fled on foot upon noticing the police presence.
In the vicinity, the Local Police located a van that the suspects had allegedly used to travel, as well as a double-section aluminium ladder and cutting pliers. Additionally, various rolls and sections of copper cable that had already been cut and gathered on the public road, ready to be loaded, were found.
Identification in a bar hours later
During the morning shift change, an off-duty officer observed several individuals inside a bar in Alhaurín de la Torre whose physical characteristics and clothing matched those of the fugitives. The police officers arrived at the establishment and located three individuals who, after appropriate checks, were identified by the officer as the same ones who had been near the telephone network.
After a superficial search, the keys to the vehicle related to the events were seized, and the three individuals, aged between 25 and 28 and residents of the province of Córdoba, were arrested. The detainees have numerous prior convictions for robbery with force and similar incidents in other municipalities.
More cabling located in another area
During the proceedings, residents from another area of the municipality alerted authorities to the presence of more cut sections of cable prepared for transport, a discovery that was verified by the officers. The vehicle and the seized items (ladder, cutting pliers, and cabling) have been placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, with the investigation proceedings continuing.
According to sources from the investigation, the detainees acted in an organized manner and may be linked to other similar thefts in the region. The Local Police of Alhaurín de la Torre has increased night surveillance in areas with telephone lines to prevent further incidents.
The theft of copper cable is a recurring problem in the province, as its value in the recycling market makes it a common target for criminals. In this case, the swift action of the patrol and citizen cooperation were key to the arrests.
Residents of Las Eras street and surrounding areas can be reassured: the Local Police has intensified patrols and reminds the importance of reporting any suspicious activity. The detainees will be brought before the judicial authority in the coming hours.
