The M-143 bus resumes its service this Wednesday, September 9, to mark the start of the academic year. It connects Alhaurín de la Torre with the Teatinos campus and the Clinical Hospital.
The M-143 bus, which links Alhaurín de la Torre with the University Campus of Teatinos, will be back in operation this Wednesday, September 9, coinciding with the return of classes in most faculties. The service, co-financed by the Metropolitan Transport Consortium of the Málaga Area (Ctmam) and the Town Hall, and operated by the AVO (Autocares Vázquez Olmedo) group, includes a stop at the Clinical Hospital of Málaga.
The journey costs €0.71 with a transport card, while a single ticket is €1.75. The starting point is located in the Doña Ana neighbourhood, in the municipality of Cártama, and passes through stops such as the Santa Amalia petrol station, Arroyo Grajea, Cuatro Vientos, La Trampa, Rotonda de El Peñón, Polígono Industrial, Finca Peralta, Pinos de Alhaurín I and II, Viñagrande, Platero, Plaza de España, Fuensanguínea, Manantiales, Cortijos, El Lagar, Casas Blancas, Churriana, Rotonda Universidad and Clinical Hospital, reaching the faculties of Sciences, Philosophy and Letters, Law, Medicine, Industrial and Engineering, and Andalucía Tech.
Departures from Doña Ana will be at 6:53, 10:00, 14:00 and 16:15, while returns from Andalucía Tech will leave at 13:00, 15:15, 17:15 and 21:15. The return of this line, which is suspended during the summer, comes at a time of high university demand, as reported by Diario Sur.
The Ctmam is already working on replicating the express bus model that connects Rincón de la Victoria with El Palo to link Alhaurín de la Torre with the capital.
The Consortium announced at the end of last year its intention to implement a rapid connection between Alhaurín de la Torre and Málaga, similar to the express line from Rincón de la Victoria. This service, resulting from collaboration between both town halls and the Junta de Andalucía through the Ministry of Development, Territorial Coordination and Housing, would allow transfers to lines 7 and 31 of the EMT and the Málaga Metro at the 'Palacio de los Deportes' stop on line L2.
For this rapid connection to be operational, the expansion works of the A-404 to its junction with the A-7 will be necessary, a project that includes two BUS-VAO lanes, one in each direction. These works are highly anticipated by the Town Hall and drivers in the area, as they would shorten travel times.
The Ctmam explained that, following the model of Rincón de la Victoria, the buses would travel with passengers between Alhaurín de la Torre and the capital, and return empty, without stops, to speed up the journey.
The resumption of the M-143 is a relief for students and workers at the Teatinos campus who reside in Alhaurín de la Torre and its surroundings, as they now have a direct connection to the university centre from this Wednesday.
