The Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has opened the application period to fill 13 vacancies for Local Police officers through open competition. The guidelines have already been published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Málaga.
The Alhaurín de la Torre Town Hall has initiated a selection process to incorporate 13 new Local Police officers. The call, published in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Málaga, is conducted through the open competition system, meaning that applicants do not need prior experience in the force.
A workforce that needs reinforcements
The municipality, which has over 40,000 inhabitants, has experienced significant growth in recent years. According to municipal sources, the demand for security and proximity services has increased, and the current workforce is overwhelmed. The new positions will primarily be allocated to patrolling, neighbourhood surveillance, and citizen assistance.
The governing team has opted for an open access process to widen the pool of potential candidates. No prior police experience is required, which opens the door for those with a high school diploma or intermediate vocational training who wish to start a civil service career.
Requirements and candidate profile
To participate in the competition, interested parties must meet a series of general conditions. Among them, having Spanish nationality, an age between 18 and 30 years (extendable in some cases), and holding a high school diploma, intermediate vocational training, or equivalent. A class B driving licence is also required, and a class A licence will be valued.
Regarding physical conditions, a minimum height of 1.65 meters for men and 1.60 for women is required, a common criterion in the autonomous community. Additionally, applicants must not have been dismissed from any public administration service or be disqualified, and must have no criminal record for intentional crimes. The complete guidelines are available on the Town Hall's electronic headquarters and in the Official Bulletin of Málaga.
Phases of the selection process
Access to the Local Police of Alhaurín de la Torre consists of several eliminatory tests. The typical scheme includes physical tests (agility circuit, speed and endurance running, vertical jump, and swimming), a theoretical multiple-choice exam on administrative legislation, traffic, citizen security, and municipal organization, and a psychotechnical and personality test. A medical examination is also conducted, and in some cases, a personal interview.
As it is an open competition, no prior merits are evaluated, so all applicants start on equal footing. The physical tests are usually the most demanding and eliminate a significant percentage of candidates in the first round. The Town Hall recommends preparing for them in advance, with at least six months of regular training.
An opportunity with stability and good salary
The starting salary for a Local Police officer in Alhaurín de la Torre is in the range of 1,800 to 2,000 euros gross per month in fourteen payments, according to union sources. This is supplemented by allowances for shifts and holidays, which can increase the salary by up to 15%. The ratio of applicants per position in the province of Málaga usually ranges between 30 and 50 candidates, offering a higher chance of success than national bodies such as the National Police or the Civil Guard.
“Being a career civil servant in the local police of an expanding municipality offers stability and prospects: it is not uncommon for officers to be promoted to sergeant or sub-inspector within a few years,” say the Human Resources department of the Town Hall.
Preparing for the competition requires dedication, but the destination is attractive due to its proximity to Málaga city and its surroundings. Interested parties should keep an eye on the application submission period, which is usually not very long in town halls. Registration is done through the municipal electronic headquarters, with a digital certificate, Cl@ve, or the specific form that accompanies the guidelines.
