The Civil Guard has carried out an operation in Barakaldo, Bizkaia, where they dismantled a clandestine lab capable of producing up to 200 kilos of speed per week.
During the operation, named 'Presaka', two men were arrested. One of them, considered the 'cook' of the illegal substance, and the other, responsible for the custody and distribution of the drug.
Arrests and discoveries
Initial investigations revealed that one of the detainees, a resident of Bilbao, had contacts with traffickers in Cantabria. This individual was involved in transportation and was believed to be sourcing the drug from a communal garage in Barakaldo.
The authorities were able to identify a second implicated individual, a man from Granada, who frequently travelled to Loiu airport. During his brief visits to Euskadi, he would meet with the other detainee and head to a bedroom in Barakaldo.
The neighbour from Bilbao acquired the necessary products for drug production and transported them to the site of the clandestine lab.
Interventions and findings
Surveillance operations allowed the Civil Guard to confirm that the property in Barakaldo was used for the manufacture of illegal substances. At a crucial moment, a delivery of five thermal bags containing 38 packages of speed weighing a total of 73 kilos was detected.
Tests confirmed that it was amphetamine sulfate, known as speed. Subsequently, two homes and two garages related to the detainees were searched, where the clandestine lab and materials for the production of synthetic drugs were found.
Additionally, in one of the garages, another 13 packages weighing 23 kilos of speed and equipment necessary for the production and packaging of the drug were discovered.
Estimates indicate that the detainees had produced and distributed nearly 700 kilos of speed in the communities of Euskadi, Cantabria, and Navarra. The operation concluded with the confiscation of 100 kilos of speed, acids, and various devices used in the production process, as well as two vehicles.
The detainees have been placed at the disposal of the judiciary and have been remanded in custody.
