IES Bezmiliana in Rincón de la Victoria will host the performance of 'You Could Be You' on October 10 at 18:00, a social play about mental health in adolescence. The event is free to attend until full capacity is reached and includes a subsequent discussion with professionals from ITA Mental Health.
The IES Bezmiliana in Rincón de la Victoria will be the stage on October 10 at 18:00 for the social play 'You Could Be You', a proposal focused on mental health in adolescence. The performance is produced by Enraona Teatre, in collaboration with ITA Mental Health and directed by Nacho Fortes.
The activity aims to open a space for reflection on the difficulties faced by many adolescents and their families regarding mental health issues. The Councillor for Social Welfare, Belén Gutiérrez, explained that this is a play aimed at breaking the silence and helping to combat the stigma associated with mental illnesses.
"When I speak with the heads of the centres, they all agree on one reflection: caring for students' mental health is also educating"
Gutiérrez emphasised the need to address these issues within educational institutions themselves. The mayor of Rincón de la Victoria, Francisco Salado, pointed out that mental health is part of the overall well-being of young people and requires spaces where they can talk, feel heard, and find tools to ask for help.
"We continue to support activities that allow us to address this reality through awareness, prevention, and education, also involving families and the entire educational community"
The play presents the story of two mothers and two adolescent daughters who recount their experiences related to mental health in the first person. The production addresses issues such as bullying, sexual abuse, social media use, self-image, self-harm, suicide, and the impact that mental health problems have on the family as a whole.
The proposal does not aim to romanticise these situations but to show their complexity and convey a message of hope based on the importance of asking for help and having a support network. The play is aimed at a general audience aged 11 years and has a format of performance followed by a discussion, lasting approximately two hours: one hour for the performance and another for the subsequent forum.
The subsequent discussion will include the participation of professionals from ITA Mental Health and will allow attendees to raise questions and reflect on the situations presented during the play. The project also considers the possibility of providing resources for those who, after the performance, may identify with any of the situations presented or need guidance related to mental health.
