Málaga has launched the seasonal vaccination campaign 2026-2027 against flu and COVID-19, as announced by the Junta de Andalucía. This campaign focuses on the most vulnerable population groups, including those residing in elderly and disabled care centres.

Last year, 351,122 people were vaccinated against flu and 140,096 against COVID-19 in the province of Málaga. Of these, 5,110 residents in elderly care centres were vaccinated against flu and 4,575 received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Beneficiary groups of the vaccination

The vaccination is indicated for residents in centres, as well as for their caregivers, pregnant women, and children aged between six months and five years. In particular, it is expected to vaccinate more than 180,000 children under five years old. The administration of the vaccine will take place in educational centres for children aged three and four years, using an intranasal formula with the consent of their families.

In the previous campaign, 175,427 children aged 6 to 59 months were vaccinated in Andalucía, with 31,711 of them in Málaga. 69.9% of the school-aged children in this age group received the flu vaccine at their educational centres.

New features in this year's campaign

The new campaign presents updates, such as the extension of the age for the high-dose flu vaccine, which will now be administered from the age of 75, compared to 80 last year. The Bimervax (Hipra) protein vaccine will also be introduced for residents and individuals aged 12 years or older with certain immunosuppression conditions.

Starting from October 7, the vaccination campaign for highly dependent individuals in their homes will begin, followed progressively by the rest of the target groups. It is expected that walk-in vaccination days will be held starting November 11 at health centres, which will take place every Wednesday during the campaign's duration.

The Junta de Andalucía has allocated 20.4 million euros to this campaign, with the expectation of vaccinating a total of 1,955,000 people across the community.
