The Málaga club Trops-Cueva de Nerja has won two medals at the Spanish U20 Championship held in Albacete: silver for Rocío Navarro in the 400 metres and bronze for Izan García in the 100 metres flat.
Trops-Cueva de Nerja returned from Albacete with a haul of two medals and twelve finalist positions at the Spanish U20 Athletics Championship. The performance of the blue team earned them fifth place in the club rankings, a result that reinforces their position as a talent pool in the province of Málaga.
Silver and Bronze with a Málaga Stamp
The sprinter Rocío Navarro won the silver medal in the 400 metres flat with a time of 53.71 seconds, her new personal best. The athlete from Trops-Cueva de Nerja demonstrated her progress in a highly competitive event.
The bronze came from Izan García in the 100 metres flat, where he matched a time of 10.53 seconds in a closely contested final. Both medals provide a boost for the club ahead of future national competitions.
Twelve Finalists and a Fifth Place in Team Rankings
In addition to the medals, the Málaga club added twelve finalist positions that allowed them to climb to fifth place in the club rankings of the championship. Among the standout results were three fourth places: Juan Antonio Ortiz in the 200 metres, Lilian Cazorla in the 400 metres, and the men's 4x100 relay (Javier García, Álvaro Olmedo, Juan Antonio Ortiz, and Iker Fernández).
There were also three fifth places for Leandro Andriá in high jump, Mario Fijo in triple jump, and Clara Navarro in 800 metres. Four sixth places went to Iker Fernández in 100 metres, Amanda Román in 3000 metres, María Flores in 3000 metres steeplechase, and María Páez in high jump. Completing the list were Fernando Barrau (seventh in 400 metres) and Valeria Quesada (eighth in hammer throw).

Trops-Cueva de Nerja, based in the Axarquía region, continues to demonstrate its ability to train high-level athletes. Participation in this national U20 championship clearly shows that the Málaga club has young talent for the long haul.
