The 30-year-old woman murdered this Monday in Antequera had been registered in the VioGén system for monitoring gender violence cases for almost three years. The victim had reported her ex-partner for abuse in November 2023, according to sources from the investigation. The alleged aggressor, 35, was found dead hours later after falling from the wall of the Antequera fortress around 11:50 am on the same day.
The events occurred in a house on Maderuelos street in the Malaga town. Around two in the afternoon, the Emergency Services 112 received alerts from neighbours reporting the stabbing of a woman. The National Police confirmed that the body had stab wounds. The victim's two children, aged 7 and 4, who were in the home, were unharmed and have been placed in the care of relatives.
Restraining order lifted a week ago
The woman had obtained a restraining order against her ex-partner after a trial and was under the protection of the Local Police of Antequera. However, according to sources from the investigation, these precautionary measures were lifted just a week ago by mutual agreement of both parties. Days later, the man allegedly stabbed the woman to death and subsequently committed suicide. The Government Subdelegation in Malaga has opened an investigation to gather all the data and forward it to the Government Delegation against Gender Violence, which will determine if it confirms a new case of gender-based violence.
If confirmed, this would be the fifth violent death of a woman at the hands of her partner or ex-partner in the province of Malaga in just two months. On July 1, a 35-year-old woman was found dead in a well in Rincón de la Victoria; her ex-partner confessed to the crime. A week later, a 61-year-old woman and her 31-year-old daughter were found dead in Mijas, allegedly murdered by the mother's boyfriend, who then set fire to the house.
30 fatalities so far this year in Spain
If confirmed, this would bring the number of women killed by gender violence in Spain in 2026 to 30, and the ninth in Andalusia. Since 2003, a total of 1,371 women have lost their lives at the hands of their partners or ex-partners. The Andalusian community leads the figures for fatalities this year, with the Antequera case adding to a list that continues to grow.
Authorities remind that help resources are available 24 hours a day. The phone number 016, the email 016-online@igualdad.gob.es, and the WhatsApp number 600 000 016 assist victims of gender violence and their surroundings. In case of emergency, one can call 112, 091 (National Police), or 062 (Civil Guard). There is also the ALERTCOPS application, which sends an alert signal with geolocation to the Police.
The educational community of Antequera has expressed its shock at the event. The City Council has declared three days of official mourning and has called for a silent gathering this afternoon in San Sebastián Square. Neighbours on Maderuelos street have placed candles and flowers at the building's entrance as a show of outrage and solidarity with the victim's family.
