Nerja celebrated this Sunday the religious events in honour of the Virgin of Anguish and Saint Michael Archangel, with a mass at the Church of El Salvador and a procession through the streets of the municipality.
The Church of El Salvador hosted this Sunday the solemn mass in honour of the patrons of Nerja, the Virgin of Anguish and Saint Michael Archangel, after which the images paraded through the streets of the municipality in procession.
The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, and the councillor for Major Festivities, Elena Gálvez, participated in the procession alongside other members of the Municipal Corporation, the justice of the peace, representatives of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Anguish and Saint Michael Archangel, the parish priests of El Salvador and Saint Michael, the senior brothers of the Nerja brotherhoods, and a group of women dressed in the traditional mantilla.
The route concluded with the collection of the Virgin at the hermitage of Our Lady of Anguish, while Saint Michael Archangel continued until returning to the Church of El Salvador.
“It is moving to see how Nerja embraces its Patron Saints, the Virgin of Anguish and Saint Michael Archangel, on a day that reflects the deep sentiment and devotion of our people to their traditions,” declared the mayor.
Armijo also conveyed his “congratulations and gratitude to the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Anguish and Saint Michael Archangel for the magnificent organisation of the events and for their dedication and effort to keep traditions alive.”
