The Ministry of Equality confirms the murder of a 29-year-old woman in Antequera as a feminist crime. The alleged attacker, aged 35, committed suicide after the crime. The victim had two minor children and there were previous reports.
The woman murdered this Monday in the centre of Antequera, aged 29 and mother of two minors, had previously reported her partner for gender-based violence. The alleged attacker, aged 35, took his own life after committing the crime with a knife, according to sources from the investigation.
The VioGén system and the restraining order that lapsed
Both were registered in the VioGén system, the comprehensive monitoring system for cases of gender-based violence. The man had a restraining order against the victim, but they mutually agreed to close the case recently, which caused that order to lapse, according to the same sources.
This detail has been key in the investigation. The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has confirmed that the case is considered a feminist murder, adding to the 31 murders due to gender-based violence so far in 2026 in Spain, nine of which occurred in Andalusia.
The victim was a user of the Municipal Centre for Women's Information in Antequera, as reported by the Andalusian Minister of Social Services, Families and Equality, Loles López, who expressed her "anger and indignation" at this new crime.
Institutional reactions and support for the family
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo García, and the Government Delegate against Gender Violence, Carmen Martínez Perza, have condemned the murder and conveyed their support to the victim's family and friends. Both have urged to "make every possible effort from institutions, administrations and society as a whole to arrive in time and prevent more deaths."
For her part, Minister Loles López has announced that the crisis psychological support service has been activated to help the family cope with this terrible situation. This resource is also used in serious cases of gender-based violence with attempted homicide and aims to facilitate the emotional recovery of the relatives.
"It is a new barbarity that fills us with anger and indignation," López declared on behalf of the Andalusian Government, which has extended condolences to the family.
The victim leaves two minor children orphaned. With this case, the number of minors orphaned due to gender-based violence in Spain rises to 20 in 2026 and to 530 since 2013, of which 114 are recorded in Andalusia.

Since 2003, when data collection began, 1,372 women have been murdered due to gender-based violence in Spain, 290 of them in Andalusia. So far in 2026, nine women have died in the Andalusian community, one of them in Antequera.
