Four inmates at Archidona prison have been sent to the isolation unit following a fight in module 2. One of them was injured with a homemade spike.

The fight, which occurred last Sunday in module 2 of Archidona prison, has led the management of the facility to isolate four inmates. The incident began between two inmates and ended with one of them injured in the ear by a homemade knife.

Fight with homemade weapon in module 2

According to sources from the Penitentiary Institutions, the altercation originated from previous issues between two inmates. The union Tu Abandono Me Puede Matar (TAMPM) has detailed that, after an initial attack, one of the prisoners used a homemade spike to attack the other. The cutting weapon caused a significant injury near the ear of the affected inmate.

The injured inmate received initial assistance in the prison infirmary. In addition to the alleged attacker and the victim, two other inmates were sent to the isolation unit for their supposed involvement in the events, including the concealment of the weapon used.

The TAMPM union has highlighted the swift intervention of the prison officers and the service chief to control the situation and prevent the confrontation from having more serious consequences.

Violent behaviour of the attacker after the incident

The union has also pointed out that the attacker maintained a violent attitude after the fight and had to be treated at a hospital for the injuries he sustained. The management of the facility applied the corresponding disciplinary measures to the four involved inmates, which the union has positively assessed.

For the residents of Archidona and the Antequera region, this incident underscores the importance of security in penitentiary facilities. Archidona prison, which houses hundreds of inmates, has protocols in place for dealing with such altercations, which fortunately are not common.

Background and context of penitentiary security

This is not the first time that violent incidents have been recorded in penitentiary centres in the province of Málaga, although the authorities usually act swiftly to prevent them from recurring. In this case, the quick action of the officers prevented the fight from escalating.

The four inmates will remain in isolation while an internal investigation is completed. The management of the facility has not specified how long this measure will last, as it will depend on the severity of the events and the sanctions imposed.
