The Antequera City Council approved on Monday the file for the concession of the Torcal Camping, a tourist space that had been in an irregular situation for years. The company Inversiones Sevilla Puerto S.L. will be responsible for rehabilitating and managing it.

The Antequera City Council took a firm step on Monday to recover one of its most emblematic tourist spaces. The Local Government Board has approved the file for the concession of the Torcal Camping, located next to the Nacimiento de la Villa, which will be managed by the company Inversiones Sevilla Puerto S.L. after a complex process of administrative unblocking.

An 'ultra complicated' file that finally sees the light

The mayor of Antequera, Manolo Barón, described the agreement as "a decisive step" to recover "one of the tourist spaces with the greatest potential that Antequera can have." The mayor recalled that the property had been plagued by occupancy issues, lack of registration order, and an administrative tangle that had prevented any action for years.

Barón detailed that the City Council has worked for approximately a year and a half with those interested in the operation of the camping. "What we are going to do is recover the camping, order its registration situation, properly segregate the properties, change its legal nature to convert it into public domain property, and prepare all the administrative documentation," he explained.

The mayor congratulated the deputy mayor of Tourism, Ana Cebrián, and the head of Heritage, Antonio García Mendoza, for their work on a file that he defined as "ultra complicated" and "very complex from all administrative points of view."

From irregularity to a new tourist resource

Ana Cebrián expressed her "happiness" and "satisfaction" for having reached this point after "a very long procedure." The councillor recalled that the camping had accumulated an irregular situation for years, with constructions and uses that did not correspond to the proper planning of the space. After the eviction and the effective recovery of the property, the search for interested companies to return it to public use began.

The chosen company, Inversiones Sevilla Puerto S.L., is an Andalusian firm that, according to Cebrián, proposes the recovery of a space that "should never have been mistreated." The deputy mayor emphasized that the camping is set to become "a new tourist resource and a new offer for many people who want to come to know Antequera."

For the residents of Antequera, the news means the recovery of a highly demanded space, located at the foot of the Torcal, a site declared World Heritage. The camping will not only offer accommodation but will also integrate into the city's tourist offer, which already includes the Archaeological Ensemble of the Dolmens and the historic city itself.

Protection of the Nacimiento de la Villa and next steps

Antonio García Mendoza emphasized that the recovery of the camping "was indeed a priority" for the Government Team. The deputy mayor highlighted two fundamental issues: the segregation of the plot and its demanialization, that is, its conversion into public domain property. "Those who have truly protected the Nacimiento de la Villa have been this Government Team," he stated.

García Mendoza stressed that by changing from heritage property to public domain property, greater protection of the land is guaranteed and it prevents it from being subject to operations contrary to the general interest. The councillor recalled that one of the key urban planning reports to move forward dates back to 2023, reflecting the prior work until the regulations allowed this step to be taken.

Now, the next step is to complete the bidding process within the legal channels so that the company can develop the project. The ultimate goal is to open the terms of reference for Inversiones Sevilla Puerto S.L. to present its project for the construction, rehabilitation, remodeling, and operation of the camping, with a view to its award, execution of the works, and subsequent opening to the public. Specific deadlines have not yet been set, but the City Council is confident that the process will be swift.

With this decision, Antequera recovers a space that promises to become an attraction for nature lovers and quality tourism, right at the gates of one of the most impressive karst landscapes in Spain. Residents, who have seen the camping degrade for years, now hope that private initiative will restore the splendour of this corner of the Torcal.
