The mayor, Manolo Barón, presided over a meeting of the Local Security Board focused on the VIOGEN system following the recent murder of a woman in the city. Protocols and coordination among bodies were reviewed.
The City Council of Antequera held an extraordinary Local Security Board on Thursday dedicated exclusively to the VIOGEN system and the action protocols against gender violence. The meeting was called after the murder of a woman by her ex-partner in the municipality, an event that prompted Mayor Manolo Barón to gather all the involved agencies.
The session, chaired by the mayor, served to review the protocols applied in the recent case and, more generally, the existing coordination procedures regarding gender violence. The aim, according to the City Council, is to analyse and strengthen the coordinated response of administrations in the prevention and protection of victims.
Representatives from the Local Police, National Police, Civil Guard, Civil Protection, the Government Subdelegation in Málaga, the Northern Málaga Health Area, and the Provincial Fire Consortium participated in the meeting. The deputy mayor and spokesperson for the Government Team, Ana Cebrián; the deputy mayor for Security, Antonio García Mendoza; and the councillor for Childhood, Family, Elderly and Equity, María Sierras, also attended.
During the meeting, the role of each participating service and body within the VIOGEN system was discussed, with particular attention to the updating of protection mechanisms and coordination between administrations.
The City Council of Antequera aimed to fulfil the commitment announced by the mayor himself following the tragic event, as part of the institutional actions of condemnation and rejection. The intention is for the response to these cases to be as swift and effective as possible.
For the residents of Antequera, this meeting represents a further step in the guarantee of a coordinated and updated response to situations of misogynistic violence. The City Council emphasises the need to keep all available resources for the protection of victims permanently reviewed.
The Local Security Board was held on the morning of Thursday, August 13, and marks the first meeting of this kind following the murder recorded in the city.
