The Marbella City Council has completed the removal of seven medium-voltage towers in the Golden Beach area, an initiative that involved an investment of €200,000 and allowed for the elimination of about 100 meters of overhead wiring, according to Diario Sur.
The work has taken place around the Real de Zaragoza river path, where the available area next to the playground has been expanded. The councillor in charge, José Eduardo Díaz, explained that since the beginning of the legislature, it was prioritised to "recover and closely collaborate with the supplying company in the removal of as many installations as possible from our city," an initiative aimed at correcting a situation inherited from previous urban development decades ago.
The removal of the towers and the undergrounding of the network allow for the recovery of space for public use and facilitate the future transformation of the Real de Zaragoza river path into a greenway. Díaz emphasised that the action "significantly strengthens protection" in a wooded area, as it allows for the "elimination of fire risks" arising from possible faults or short circuits, in addition to improving the integration of the installations into the surroundings and the quality of life for residents.
The municipal official has announced that these interventions will continue with new projects in different areas of Marbella. "Work is already underway on the undergrounding of all the lines that pass over the A-7 and AP-7," he noted, with upcoming actions planned in the Nagüeles area.
