The Fuengirola Nautical Club is organising the First Anchored Boat Fishing Competition, which will be held on July 25 with €4,500 in prizes and a postponement to August 1 if the weather is not favourable.
Next Saturday, July 25, the waters of Fuengirola will be the stage for the First Anchored Boat Fishing Competition, an event that promises to bring together enthusiasts and experts for a ten-hour competition. The Sports Councillor, Julio Rodríguez, presented the initiative this Tuesday alongside the director of the Marina, Antonio Sánchez, and representatives of the Nautical Club, José Ramón Carmona and Juan Carlos Ruano.
A Growing Modality
Anchored fishing, which is practised from anchored boats using an anchor or electric winch, is the focus of this competition. As José Ramón Carmona explained, the competition will start at 08:00 and last until 18:00, with a total of ten hours of uninterrupted fishing. The organisation has planned a postponement to August 1 if the weather conditions are not optimal.
Carmona highlighted the excellent reception of this first edition and expressed his hope that “it becomes one of the best anchored fishing competitions ever organised.” The total prize amount, he said, is a key incentive: €4,500 in total, divided into two categories: Largest Catch and Total Weight of Catches.
Attractive Prizes and Final Raffle
In each category, the first place winner will receive €1,000, the second €750, and the third €500. The prizes are not cumulative and are subject to the corresponding tax retention. Additionally, at the end of the day, there will be a raffle of gifts among all participants, an extra that always adds excitement.
The director of the Marina, Antonio Sánchez, thanked the collaboration of the Nautical Club and noted that the registration period is still open. “There is already an interesting number of registered participants, but those interested can sign up until the last minute,” he assured. For local fishermen, it is an opportunity to compete at home and, in the process, aim for some significant prizes.
Municipal Support for Nautical Sports
Councillor Julio Rodríguez emphasised that “these types of activities demonstrate the involvement of groups like the Nautical Club with our city, while contributing to expanding the offer of nautical activities during the summer season.” For the Fuengirola City Council, supporting events like this is a way to promote sports and leisure tourism, a key sector on the Costa del Sol.
For his part, Juan Carlos Ruano thanked the municipal support and collaborating companies, and highlighted that this new event “adds to the wide cultural, sports, and leisure offer that the city provides during the summer.” Thus, Fuengirola is not just about beaches and beach bars: it is also a destination for sports fishing enthusiasts.
The competition presents itself as an original alternative for the last weekend of July, just before the local fair begins. Participants will need to keep an eye on the weather forecast, as if the wind or waves are not favourable, the event will be moved to August 1. A sensible decision that prevents the day from becoming more of a balancing act than a fishing experience.
