The municipality of Benalmádena has received three Blue Flags for its beaches Carvajal, Fuente de la Salud and Torrebermeja-Santa Ana, in addition to maintaining the award at the Marina. Mayor Juan Antonio Lara and Councillor Presi Aguilera presided over the flag-raising ceremony at Torrebermeja beach.
Benalmádena raised the Blue Flags on Wednesday that will fly during the 2026 season on its beaches and at the Marina. The event, held at Torrebermeja beach, was presided over by the mayor, Juan Antonio Lara, and the Councillor for Beaches and Tourism, Presi Aguilera.
The municipality has achieved three awards for its beaches: Carvajal and Fuente de la Salud have renewed the award obtained in previous years, while Torrebermeja-Santa Ana has regained the Blue Flag after meeting the criteria for environmental quality, safety, accessibility and services. This is in addition to the renewal of the recognition for the Marina, one of the key nautical points on the Costa del Sol.
Juan Antonio Lara highlighted during the event that "these Blue Flags are a reflection of the serious and constant work carried out by the City Council to provide beaches and a Marina in the best possible conditions." The mayor emphasized that "behind each award is a huge daily effort in cleaning, maintenance, safety, accessibility and environmental care that allows residents and visitors to enjoy a coastline of the highest quality."
Lara described the recovery of the Blue Flag for Torrebermeja-Santa Ana as a "magnificent piece of news" and assured that "when you work with planning and responsibility, the results come." For her part, Presi Aguilera praised the coordinated work of municipal services throughout the year to maintain the standards required for this international recognition.
The Blue Flag is an award granted by the Association of Environmental Education and Consumer (ADEAC) that certifies the quality of bathing waters, environmental management, safety, services, accessibility and user information. Benalmádena thus consolidates its position as one of the tourist destinations on the Andalusian coast most committed to sustainability.
For residents and tourists, having three awarded beaches guarantees that the sands meet the highest European standards. Additionally, the Marina, with its Blue Flag, enhances its appeal as a reference port on the Costa del Sol.
The City Council has reminded that maintaining these distinctions requires continuous investment in cleaning, rescue services, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, and services such as showers or toilets. The 2026 bathing season begins with these awards, which, according to municipal sources, are the result of "planned work throughout the year."
