The historic centre of Benalmádena Pueblo hosts a new edition of the Arab Souk until Sunday, August 30, featuring crafts, gastronomy, music and shows for all audiences.
The Arab Souk has once again transformed the streets and squares of the historic centre of Benalmádena Pueblo into a large market set in another era. The event, organised by the Benalmádena Town Hall, will run until Sunday, August 30 with activities at midday, in the afternoon and in the evening.
The inauguration was attended by the Councillor for Commerce, Raúl Campos, accompanied by councillors Rosa Balbuena, Lucía Camero and José Luis Bergillos, as well as the territorial delegate for Economy of the Andalusian Government, Antonio García Acedo.
During the opening, Campos highlighted “the magnificent atmosphere that Benalmádena Pueblo offers again with an event that has become established within our summer programme and allows us to enjoy our historic centre in a different way.” He invited residents and visitors to come by during these days and enjoy everything the Souk has to offer, “while getting to know our streets, our gastronomy and our commerce.”
The big novelty of this edition is falconry, which takes place in the plaza de la Cruz. From there, exhibitions and flights of birds of prey are carried out along the market route, with explanatory talks and demonstrations to bring the public closer to the characteristics of these birds.
The little ones have a wide programme of activities. In the area behind the church, archery and pottery workshops are held, while henna and wood carving workshops are offered on calle Real. The children's area also features an eco carousel, game tables and a photo space with period characters.
Music is another major attraction. The group Al Folk travels through the streets with parades of Arabic music and belly dancers. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, starting at 10:30 PM, the plaza de Andalucía will host concerts of Sephardic music.
The gastronomic offer is distributed across different points along the route, with a tavern area in the Montebello parking and the revival of the Arab tea house and medieval taverns around the church.
Campos emphasised that the Arab Souk is “one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Benalmádena Pueblo and a magnificent opportunity to bring life to our historic centre, attract visitors and support the activity of our shops and establishments.” The councillor encouraged residents and visitors to stroll through the streets during these days and enjoy a programme designed for families, which also aims to boost commerce and hospitality in the municipality.
