The Plenary of the Town Hall of La Rinconada has unanimously greenlit the municipality's candidacy to aspire to the title of European City of Sport in 2028. The distinction, awarded by the ACES Europe association, recognises localities that stand out for their promotion of sport, healthy lifestyles, and citizen participation.
With this agreement, the council officially begins the process to obtain a quality seal already received by other Andalusian cities such as Málaga, Córdoba, Antequera, or Granada. The decision was made in a plenary session held this Thursday, according to municipal sources.
The candidacy aims to highlight the work developed over decades by clubs, athletes, entities, coaches, and volunteers in the municipality. According to the Town Hall, La Rinconada has consolidated a wide network of sports facilities, a team of qualified coaches, and intense activity throughout the year.
The local sports model is based on equal opportunities, inclusion, and practice for all ages. The commitment to grassroots sports, the organisation of major events, and the involvement of thousands of residents have made La Rinconada a sports reference in Andalusia, as highlighted by the council.
