The Málaga Folklore Festival opens on September 10 with 20 groups

FIFMA 2026 will bring together 20 local and international folklore groups in Málaga from September 10 to 14, free entry at Sala FEMAPE and Auditorio Eduardo Ocón.

The Malagueña Federation of Peñas 'La Alcazaba' is celebrating FIFMA 2026 from September 10 to 14 at Sala FEMAPE and Auditorio Eduardo Ocón, with free entry and participation from local and international groups.

The Malagueña Federation of Peñas, Cultural Centres and Regional Houses La Alcazaba presented the programme for the new edition of the Málaga International Folklore Festival (FIFMA 2026) on Monday at its headquarters, as reported by Diario Sur. The event is sponsored by the Unicaja Foundation and supported by the City Council of Málaga and the Provincial Council.

The festival will kick off on Thursday, September 10 at 21:00 at the Sala FEMAPE (Calle Victoria, 17) with the opening ceremony. At 21:15, the book History of Dance. Vol. IV. Traditional Dance in Spain, published by Mahali Ediciones, will be presented, followed by a madrileña dance workshop led by Dr. María José Ruiz Mayordomo at 21:30.

The performances will move to the Auditorio Eduardo Ocón, located on Paseo del Parque, from Friday 11 to Monday 14, always at 20:30. The first day will feature the Ukrainian Culture and Art Association, Romanian Heart in Andalusia, the Folkloric Group Solera from Alhaurín de la Torre, F. C. Raíces and Horizonte, also from Alhaurín de la Torre, and the Dance and Folklore Group Ciudad de Marbella.

On Saturday 12, the Folkloric Group of the Bulgarian Association, the Cultural Association Unidos Perú from Fuengirola, the Colombian Heritage Association, and A.M.C. Choirs and Dances from Mijas will perform. Sunday 13 will see the highest number of participants: it will open with the Dance Group Barvínok from the Ukrainian School of Málaga, followed by the Cultural Association Verdiales El Morche and Fandangos de Huit, the Argentine Association Martín Fierro from Alhaurín de la Torre, the Cultural Folkloric Association Juan Navarro from Torremolinos, and the Cultural Folkloric Association Nuevas Raíces from Villanueva de Algaidas.

The closing will take place on Monday 14 with the Flamenco Association Seis Generaciones from Benalmádena and the Trio Raíces, which will conclude five days of traditional music and dance. Access to all performances is free and open until capacity is reached.
