In Málaga, the Junta of Andalucía has announced the extension of the deadline to participate in the twenty-fifth edition of the School Literary Contest on volunteering. Interested parties will have until November 17 to submit their works.
Focus on volunteering and elderly care
This year, the contest is focused on the care of elderly people and is part of the International Year of Volunteers. The Ministry of Social Services, Families and Equality has highlighted the aim of raising awareness among students in educational centres about volunteering and the values of solidarity, equality, and justice through their written productions.
The contest is intended for primary education students and special education centres in Andalucía, without distinction between public, concerted, or private centres.
Conditions and prizes
The contest includes two categories. The first for fifth and sixth-grade primary education students and the second for special education students. The stories must be short narrative fictions, with a maximum of three pages and must be unpublished.
Each educational centre can submit up to three texts per category. The jury will select winning stories by province in the primary education category and one winner at the regional level in the special education category. The prizes, consisting of bicycles valued at up to 300 euros, will be awarded at a public event coinciding with 'International Volunteer Day'. In the previous edition, 60 students participated from 22 educational centres in Andalucía.
