The town of Motril was the venue for the closing of the Annual Conference of the Andalusian Federation of Fishermen's Guilds (FACOPE), an event that coincided with the 30th anniversary of the Federation's establishment. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Consolación Vera, participated in this meeting, which took place on October 21 and 22.
Dialogue with the Fishing Sector
During her speech, Vera highlighted the importance of the "good dialogue" that the Andalusian Government maintains with the fishermen's guilds. This dialogue is essential for listening to the sector's needs and working together towards solving the problems they face.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the crucial role that FACOPE has played over the last 30 years, being a benchmark in representing the guilds and workers of the sea in Andalusia. "Fishing policies must be informed by the knowledge and experience of those who work at sea," Vera stated.
Challenges of Andalusian Fishing
During the conference, topics such as the financial framework FEMPA 2028-2034, the current situation of fishing in Andalusia, and the management of fish markets were discussed. Vera identified the main challenges facing the sector, which include the profitability of fishing activities, the modernization of the fleet, generational change, and working conditions for fishermen.
The Deputy Minister concluded her speech by congratulating FACOPE on its trajectory and thanking everyone who has contributed to its consolidation. "Let us continue to listen to each other and work together for a fishing industry in Andalusia with a present and future," she concluded.
