During the first half of 2026, the shelters of the Andalusian Institute of Women in the province of Málaga have provided assistance to a total of 144 individuals, including 80 women and 64 minors. These actions are part of a program managed by the Department of Social Services, Families and Equality.
Activities for minors
The shelters implement over 50 activities focused on the well-being of the children residing with their mothers in these facilities. Among the activities are reading clubs, gardening workshops, puppet shows, water games, and trips to the beach. This program, which began on June 22 and will run until September 6, aims to provide fun and violence-free holidays.
The activities aim to promote the emotional and social development of minors. Education in values such as equality, respect, and empathy is encouraged, helping participants express their emotions and resolve conflicts.
Overview of care in Andalucía
In total, 1,130 individuals have been assisted in the shelters of Andalucía during the same period. The first half of 2026 showed a slight increase of 1.2% compared to the previous year. Málaga has been one of the key points, with a total of 144 individuals assisted by this service.
The shelters include different types of resources such as emergency centres and shelters, which provide care and protection 24 hours a day. The importance of these facilities lies in their ability to offer comprehensive recovery to women and minors affected by gender-based violence, ensuring their well-being and safety.
Interventions are carried out through a multidisciplinary approach that includes educational, social, psychological, and legal support. The ultimate goal of this system is to provide women and minors with an opportunity to rebuild their lives after traumatic experiences.
