Málaga Regional University Hospital has renewed its accreditation as a Centre, Service and Reference Unit (CSUR) in multiple sclerosis, awarded by the National Health System. This recognition certifies the quality of care and the expertise of its Multiple Sclerosis Unit.
The unit, which serves approximately 2,000 patients each year, stands out for providing comprehensive care based on multidisciplinary coordination and access to advanced treatments.
Importance of reaccreditation
With this reaccreditation, the Hospital of Málaga reaffirms its commitment to specialised care in this chronic, autoimmune, and degenerative neurological disease. Multiple sclerosis is one of the main causes of non-traumatic disability in young adults, making it essential to have highly specialised units.
The coordinator of the Multiple Sclerosis Unit, Ana Alonso, points out that this recognition is an impetus to continue providing patient-centred care. The reaccreditation facilitates access to complex diagnostic and therapeutic resources and allows participation in research projects and clinical trials.
Activities and collaborations
Over the past year, the unit has conducted intensive follow-up of nearly 2,000 patients and has participated in numerous clinical trials. Additionally, its professionals actively contribute to training and scientific initiatives in various fields, enabling them to incorporate the latest therapeutic advances into clinical practice.
Pedro Serrano, head of the Neurology service at the hospital, emphasises that this reaccreditation consolidates the centre as a national reference in the treatment of complex neurological diseases. Strengthening equitable access to quality care is one of the main objectives of this recognition, which promotes the development of specialised care models.
