Málaga City Council has held a gala at the NH hotel to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons. The event recognised the work of Rafael Ruiz Rufino, 90, a member of the La Ilusión Association of Retirees and Pensioners.
The Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, and the Councillor for Social Rights, Francisco Cantos, presided over the gala organised by the City Council at the NH Málaga hotel in honour of the International Day of Older Persons, which is celebrated every 1st of October.
About one thousand older persons from the city's associative movement attended the event. The celebration included dancing and an orchestra, and paid tribute to Rafael Ruiz Rufino, aged 90, a member of the La Ilusión Association of Retirees and Pensioners.
Ruiz Rufino received the distinction awarded each year by the City Council to an outstanding older person for their work in favour of the welfare of the community. The recognition is part of the municipal programme of activities designed for this anniversary.
“It is an honour for the city to recognise the journey of people like Rafael, who dedicate their time to the welfare of others,” the mayor stated during his speech.
The gala brought together representatives from the older persons' associations in Málaga, who participated in a day of community with live music. The City Council has scheduled other activities throughout October to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons.
