Representatives of Málaga CF met this Thursday with Mayor Francisco de la Torre to finalise the municipal sponsorship for the upcoming season, which will include the name of Málaga on the shirt. Additionally, urgent improvements at La Rosaleda demanded by LaLiga were discussed.
The judicial administrator, José María Muñoz; the general director, Kike Pérez; and the sports director, Loren Juarros, sat down this Thursday with Málaga's mayor, Francisco de la Torre, to give the final push to the City Council's sponsorship ahead of the La Liga season. The agreement is practically closed and will mean that the name of the city will appear on the blue and white shirt, in the lower front side, the same space occupied by UAX (Universidad Alfonso X) last season.
The City Council will contribute a significant financial amount, in line with the promotion. De la Torre had previously stated that the city needed to return to the elite, and now it is time to dig deep to support the club in its return. For Málaga fans, seeing their city's name on the team's chest is a source of pride and a gesture of institutional commitment.
Urgent improvements at La Rosaleda
The meeting also addressed LaLiga's requirements for the La Rosaleda stadium. Kike Pérez had already indicated last week that "La Rosaleda urgently needs lighting and addressing the water leakage issue, which is something LaLiga insists on a lot." The club assures that there is "maximum willingness" to undertake these works and that they are "on the right track."
In the longer term, the project for the New Rosaleda looms, although the ownership issues of the stadium make this idea currently a mere fantasy. Málaga has participated in meetings and is informed about the possible new location, but institutions insist that private investment would be needed for the project to be viable, even if it starts with public money.
The rest of the sponsors, already confirmed
In addition to the City Council, the Málaga Provincial Council confirmed last week that 'Sabor a Málaga' and 'Turismo Costa del Sol' will appear on the front and back of the shorts, respectively. For this sponsorship, the supramunicipal entity will pay 1.5 million euros, a figure in line with the La Liga category.
On the sleeves, one will carry the logo of MGS Seguros, a long-standing partner of the club; the other will feature the LaLiga logo. On the back of the collar, Grupo Dental Clinics will appear, another sponsor already announced by the loudspeakers at La Rosaleda. And at the bottom of the shirt, Benahavís will continue, one of the most loyal sponsors of Málaga CF.
Thus, the Málaga shirt for its return to La Liga will be practically complete, with the city's name as the main novelty. Fans will be able to see it in action starting next August, when the competition kicks off.
