The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, has met in Málaga with the Government subdelegate to address the rise in fatalities due to gender violence in the province.
The Minister of Equality, Ana Redondo, held a meeting on Monday in Málaga with the Government subdelegate, Javier Salas, and representatives of the State Security Forces to analyse the situation of gender violence in the province. According to Diario Sur, the meeting responds to the Government's concern over the high number of women killed so far this year.
Redondo explained that the meeting was convened "because the number of fatalities, of women murdered by gender violence in Andalucía and, especially, in the province, is particularly concerning." Of the ten women murdered in Andalucía in 2026, six were in Málaga, a figure that, in the minister's words, "represents a quite significant percentage, certainly higher than the population weight of the province."
For his part, the Government subdelegate pointed out that "in a society like Málaga's, which increasingly wants to open up to the world, an equal, free, democratic society, it cannot be allowed" that six femicides occur in the province. Salas linked these cases "to the hate speech of the far-right that is being adopted by the right."
Government officials have announced that a crisis committee on gender violence will be held in Sevilla on 16 September, with the aim of "gaining firsthand knowledge of what is happening" and "continuing to advance and better protect victims and change the macho culture."
The minister reminded that Andalucía has 24 million euros allocated from the State Pact against Gender Violence. These resources, she said, "must be linked to the protection of victims, detection, but also to effective training and prevention of these episodes."
