In Málaga, the first vice president and councillor for the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, announced the start of payments for the operational experience and professional development supplement for EMA Infoca workers. This new payment aims to compensate for the removal of the previously established seniority supplement.
Details of the new supplement
Workers began receiving this increase through a corrective payroll that includes payments from January to August 2026. From September onwards, a monthly payment will be implemented.
Antonio Sanz stated that €5.4 million has been invested in this supplement, aligning with the commitment made to address a historical demand from sector workers. This move comes in the context of the elimination of the old seniority supplement in 2008 due to the previous agreement signed by the PSOE.
Inauguration and new infrastructures
The announcement of the supplement took place during the inauguration of the new EMA Infoca Forest Defence Subcentre in Laujar de Andarax, Almería. This facility was created with an investment of €352,000, of which 80 percent was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The new subcentre aims to improve responses to forest fires, providing a suitable place for training and preparing personnel. The building spans 422 square meters and is equipped with areas designed for continuous training, machinery maintenance, and other logistical functions.
Antonio Sanz highlighted that this operation is part of a larger investment of €165.4 million in EMA Infoca infrastructure since 2020. Currently, the agency has nearly 5,000 professionals and a large fleet of firefighting vehicles.
The Andalusian Government's efforts to modernise EMA Infoca also include the addition and renewal of insurance providers, as well as the creation of new units to enhance effectiveness in fire-fighting operations. Over the last two legislative terms, 14 new subcentres have been created in Andalusia, all focused on the rehabilitation and construction of infrastructures that benefit emergency operators.
