The Civil Guard has dismantled in Málaga an organisation dedicated to the systematic theft of products in supermarkets, following the operation known as Klopes. This operation has allowed for the recovery of more than 10,000 products valued at over 102,000 euros.
Operation Klopes and its Development
The investigation was led by the Organic Judicial Police Unit of Bizkaia and has resulted in the arrest of two individuals, while another five people are under investigation. Additionally, there are four outstanding arrest warrants.
The organisation was composed of two distinct groups: one responsible for committing the thefts and another dedicated to selling the stolen products. A total of 19 thefts in various locations have been clarified, including Murcia, Bizkaia, Madrid, and Valladolid, while efforts continue to confirm another 35 crimes allegedly committed in Madrid, Burgos, and Álava.
Recovered Products and Methods Used
The investigation has allowed for the recovery of a wide variety of products, mainly cosmetics such as sun creams, razors, deodorants, and bottles of alcohol. The agents also discovered tools and devices used to evade security systems in the establishments.
During two searches conducted, more than 10,000 products from the thefts were located, and in several subsequent inspections of shops, identical products to those stolen were identified being offered at prices lower than usual.
The Klopes operation has involved the collaboration of different units of the Civil Guard and has been directed by the Court of Instance No. 7 of Bilbao. This action is part of the COOPERA Plan, aimed at combating organised crime in the national territory.
