Costa del Sol University Hospital (HUCS), located in Marbella, has added five new nurses to enhance the care of patients with complex conditions. Of these, three are Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) and two are case managers.
Advanced Practice Nurses
The new advanced practice nurses specialise in areas of Palliative Care, Complex Chronic Wounds, and Stoma Therapy. Their inclusion in the team allows the hospital to improve its responsiveness to situations requiring specialised and continuous care, thus ensuring personalised and coordinated attention.
The APN in Palliative Care will provide comprehensive care to patients and families, maintaining continuity of care through the various stages of illness. This model is based on person-centred care and their family environment.
The APN in Complex Chronic Wounds will strengthen care for patients with difficult-to-heal wounds, allowing for an individualised approach aimed at improving their progress and preventing complications. On the other hand, the APN in Stoma Therapy will provide specialised care to those with ostomies, addressing their needs and facilitating their adaptation.
Hospital Case Management
The hospital has also added two Case Manager Nurses, whose role is to ensure continuity of care and coordination between different levels of care. These professionals focus on patients with complex needs, facilitating their transition from hospital to Primary Care and home.
Case management is considered key to ensuring that each patient receives the appropriate care plan and the integration of the various services involved.
The Director of Nursing at HUCS, Carmen Cuenca, has stated that the addition of these roles represents a significant advancement in their care model. Specialisation and continuous attention are fundamental for the hospital, aiming to improve the experience of patients and their families throughout the care process. Furthermore, the goal is to strengthen the relationship between the hospital and primary care.
With these measures, Costa del Sol University Hospital continues its commitment to advancing towards a care model that prioritises quality, safety, and specialisation, reaffirming the importance of the nursing role in caring for the current population.
