Málaga City Council has sealed off a plot in Churriana that was operating as an unlicensed parking lot, near the airport. The Local Police have removed vehicles and the activity is now closed while the file is processed.
Málaga City Council has ordered the closure of an illegal parking lot in the Churriana district, very close to the airport, upon discovering that it lacked the necessary municipal license. Local Police officers sealed off the premises and proceeded to remove the vehicles that were inside.
According to municipal sources, the plot had accommodated around sixty cars, although after Thursday's intervention, approximately twenty remained. Neighbours in the area had alerted authorities about the irregular activity and various incidents related to the management of the parking.
This action is part of a control campaign that the City Council has been carrying out around the airport, where high demand for parking spaces has led to the proliferation of unlicensed operations. Municipal services confirmed that the business did not even have a responsible declaration, a prerequisite for the opening license.
The person in charge of the parking lot, as indicated by the City Council to residents, had removed some vehicles from the premises once the closure was known. However, the intervention of a tow truck was necessary to remove some cars due to the incidents recorded.
At the entrance of the plot, the seal placed by the Local Police can already be seen, preventing the continuation of the activity while the corresponding administrative file is processed. This newspaper has contacted the operating company but has not received a response.
This is not the first time the City Council has acted against irregular parking lots in this area. Earlier this year, it ordered the closure of another parking lot that was operating without a responsible declaration in the same district. The new intervention reinforces municipal oversight of facilities that, according to the City Council, violate urban planning and safety regulations.
The plot will remain sealed until the file is resolved, which could lead to financial penalties and the obligation to regularise the activity or a definitive closure. Meanwhile, the City Council maintains pressure on illegal businesses in the vicinity of the airport, a strategic area where the lack of regulated parking supply fuels these practices.
For the residents of Churriana, the closure is a relief from the disturbances caused by the parking lot, such as noise, constant vehicle movement, and occupation of public roads. However, some residents point out that the demand for spaces remains high and that it would be necessary to expand the legal parking offer in the area to prevent the re-emergence of such operations.
The City Council, for its part, reminds drivers who need to leave their cars near the airport that they can opt for the official parking lots of the airport itself or other private parking facilities that do have the necessary permits. The Local Police will continue to carry out periodic inspections to detect and close illegal activities.
