The Junta de Andalucía has announced that, through Andalucía TRADE, it will allocate a total of €88 million in aid to promote research and development (R&D) during the year 2026. This amount will be distributed across two lines of support, aimed at boosting innovation in the autonomous community.
Calls and characteristics of the aid
The first line of aid, with a budget of €18 million, will be launched in September and will be non-competitive in nature. This call seeks to support R&D with a reception of applications that has exceeded expectations in previous programmes, where a large number of companies expressed interest in participating.
The second line of aid, with a competitive focus and a budget of €70 million, is expected to be announced before the end of the year. This will focus on larger-scale industrial research and experimental development projects, promoting the creation of new products and processes in Andalucía.
The September call benefits from prior backing, where the application deadline closed on June 30, with 210 companies interested in carrying out 199 projects that mobilise an investment of €92 million and a demand for aid amounting to €60.83 million.
New companies in the innovative ecosystem
According to the Junta, 80% of the applicants are new to this type of incentive, mostly small and micro-enterprises, highlighting the programme's ability to attract new players to the Andalusian innovation ecosystem.
In terms of efficiency, Andalucía TRADE has shown an average resolution time of five months for incentive files, one month less than initially stipulated, which has generated trust among companies by providing clear timelines and security.
The R&D call allows for subsidies of up to 50% of the eligible investment, in line with the Smart Specialisation Strategy for Sustainability of Andalucía (S4 Andalucía).
Furthermore, the business financing system of Andalucía TRADE will integrate a combination of instruments, including direct incentives, repayable financing, and European funds, providing a diversified approach to R&D aid in the region.
In 2026, the FAST Fund will also be introduced, with €30 million for projects related to digital technologies, biotechnology, and clean technologies, providing greater accessibility to public funding for companies of all sizes.
Therefore, with these three lines of support, Andalucía TRADE positions itself as a fundamental pillar for the development of R&D in the autonomous community, addressing the needs of a wide range of businesses.
