The Málaga municipality programmes zarzuela, flamenco, a historic anniversary and chess for the last days of August, with activities for all audiences.
The Málaga municipality of Rincón de la Victoria is finalising a packed agenda of proposals to bid farewell to the month of August. The programme includes the Festival of Zarzuela by the Andalusian Lyrical Theatre, the III Noctiluca Flamenco Festival, the commemoration of the 191st anniversary of the constitution of the Benagalbón Town Hall, and a new date in the provincial chess circuit.
The Councillor for Culture, Paz Couto, has highlighted that “the end of August arrives loaded with activities with an agenda that combines great cultural proposals and we will be able to enjoy them in various spaces and venues in the municipality.” For his part, the mayor, Francisco Salado, has emphasised “the variety and quality of a programme that allows us to close the month of August while maintaining intense cultural and sporting activity throughout the municipality.”
The Festival of Zarzuela by the Andalusian Lyrical Theatre will bring two titles from the Spanish repertoire, ‘La boda de Luis Alonso’ and ‘Los Gavilanes’, on the 28th and 29th of August at the CEIP Manuel Laza Palacio in Rincón de la Victoria. The proposal will feature more than 80 professionals among the artistic and technical cast. Tickets are already on sale and can also be purchased on the same day as the performances.
The III Noctiluca Flamenco Festival will once again turn the municipality into a reference point for flamenco enthusiasts. From the 28th to the 30th of August, the festival will bring this art to La Cala del Moral, Rincón de la Victoria, and Benagalbón, with a lineup that combines established figures with new promises from the flamenco scene.
The agenda also reserves a space for local historical memory. On Friday, the 28th of August, a commemorative event for the 191st anniversary of the constitution of the Benagalbón Town Hall will take place at the Centre for Studies of Málaga Folklore in Benagalbón. This event will recognise the archaeologist Juan Bautista Salado.
The last weekend of August is rounded off with a sporting event: the 32nd Provincial Chess Circuit of the Málaga Provincial Council will bring together enthusiasts and players on the 29th of August in the Plaza Al-Ándalus. The cultural offering concludes with the exhibition ‘Paper and Silk. Bullfighting Memory of Málaga’, which can be visited until the 30th of August at the Casa Fuerte Bezmiliana, to mark the 150th anniversary of La Malagueta.
For residents and visitors who wish to enjoy these proposals, the recommendation is to check the schedules and purchase tickets in advance, especially for the zarzuela, given the artistic deployment it entails. The municipal agenda thus maintains constant activity in all population centres of the municipality.
