The Nerja Athletics Club Trops-Cueva de Nerja performed excellently at the Andalusian Masters Championship held in Vélez Málaga. The men took gold in the team event and the women silver.

Trops-Cueva de Nerja has once again demonstrated its potential in regional athletics. At the Andalusian Masters Championship, held at the Fernando Hierro Stadium track in Vélez Málaga, the men's team secured first place in the team event, while the women's team achieved a commendable second position.

The event brought together twelve clubs from across Andalusia, all of which had qualified beforehand. The veteran athletes from the Nerja team accumulated 100 points in the men's category, surpassing UA Almería (95 points) and Chapín de Jerez (91 points), who completed the podium.

In the individual events, several names stood out. Andrés de la Torre was first in the 400 meters; Mario Garrido won in shot put; Álvaro Ruiz was second in long jump; Álvaro Fernández, second in 800 meters; Agustín Luchena, second in 110 meters hurdles; Iván Trujillo, third in 5 km walk; and José Manuel Villodres, third in 3000 meters. The 4x400 relay, made up of Álvaro Fernández, Andrés de la Torre, Adrián Cantos, and Luis Jorquera, also finished third.

In the women's category, Trops-Cueva de Nerja scored 85 points, only surpassed by Nutrisport Biznaga (106 points). Vélez Rincón Dental came third with 67 points. The Nerja athletes also delivered notable performances: the 4x400 relay (Catri Began, Ana María Cantero, Maicu López, and Rocío García) won their event; Elenir Oliveira was first in 3 km walk; Mayka Cobos, second in long jump and third in high jump; Maicu López, second in 800 meters; María José Sánchez, second in 400 meters; María Jesús Cano, third in 3000 meters; and Mariló Claros, third in shot put.

The club, which represents Nerja and is sponsored by the Nerja Caves, continues to establish itself as one of the leading references in masters athletics in Andalusia. The competition, held annually, serves as preparation for future national and international championships in the category.

For athletics fans in Axarquía, these results are a source of pride and demonstrate the good foundational work being done at the club. The next objective for Trops-Cueva de Nerja will be to maintain their level in the upcoming events on the Andalusian calendar.
