The Nerja club triumphed in the men's category and finished second in the women's at the regional tournament held in Vélez-Málaga.

The Trops-Cueva de Nerja has become the main protagonist of the Andalucía master club athletics championship, held last Sunday at the Estadio Fernando Hierro in Vélez-Málaga. The men's section claimed the regional title, while the women's team achieved a commendable second place, confirming the dominance of the Nerja club in veteran athletics in Andalucía.

In the men's competition, the athletes from Trops-Cueva de Nerja amassed 100 points, five more than UA Almería (95), who took silver, and nine more than Chapín de Jerez (91), who won bronze. A total of twelve clubs from across Andalucía, previously qualified, participated in the tournament.

Among the standout names from the men's team were Andrés de la Torre, first in the 400 meters; Mario Garrido, first in shot put; and Álvaro Ruiz, second in long jump. Also shining were Álvaro Fernández, second in 800 meters, and Agustín Luchena, second in 110 meters hurdles. In the walking event, Iván Trujillo finished third in 5 kilometers, and José Manuel Villodres, third in 3000 meters. The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Álvaro Fernández, Andrés de la Torre, Adrián Cantos, and Luis Jorquera, also secured third place.

In the women's category, Trops-Cueva de Nerja scored 85 points, only surpassed by Nutrisport Biznaga (106). The third place went to Vélez Rincón Dental, with 67 points. The Nerja women triumphed in the 4x400 relay, with Catri Begán, Ana María Cantero, Maicu López, and Rocío García as the stars. Additionally, Elenir Oliveira won the 3 kilometers walking event.

The women's medal tally was completed with silvers for Mayka Cobos in long jump, Maicu López in 800 meters, and María José Sánchez in 400 meters. The bronzes went to Mayka Cobos in high jump, María Jesús Cano in 3000 meters, and Mariló Claros in shot put.

This double podium is a boost for the Nerja club, which continues to demonstrate its strength in regional athletics. The competition, which brought together the best master clubs in Andalucía, took place on the track of the Estadio Fernando Hierro in Vélez-Málaga, a facility that regularly hosts top-level events.

For fans in Nerja and the Axarquía, this success reinforces the image of Trops-Cueva de Nerja as a reference for grassroots and veteran sports in the province of Málaga. The club, which has a long history, continues to achieve milestones that put the name of the municipality on the Andalucía sports map.

The next challenge for the Nerja athletes will be the master Spanish Championship, where they will aim to replicate or improve these results. Preparation is already underway, with eyes set on the national event.
