The Barriada de Los Poetas will host the San Cristóbal Fair on July 10 and 11, featuring a proclamation, performances, and fireworks. The councillor for Popular Traditions and the local mayor have presented the programme.
The Barriada de Los Poetas is preparing for one of its most anticipated summer events. The San Cristóbal Fair 2026 has been officially presented by the local mayor, Luis Ponce, and the councillor for Popular Traditions, Elena Gálvez, accompanied by members of the Friends of Los Poetas Residents' Association. The festival, set to take place on July 10 and 11, promises two days of community and entertainment for all audiences.
Programme for Friday, July 10: Proclamation and Election of the Queen
The fair will kick off on Friday at 19:00 with the official proclamation, which this year will be delivered by José Doña Salcedo. Following this, the election of the Queen and the Knights of the Festivities will take place, a traditional moment that brings together numerous locals. After the lighting of the entrance arch, attendees will be able to enjoy a free paella, courtesy of Ayo, and performances by Elisa Ariza and her group, Aire Flamenco, and DJ Manuel Moreno.
Friday night promises to be lively, with music for all tastes and a festive atmosphere that will last well into the early hours. The organisers have aimed to maintain the spirit of traditional fairs, blending tradition and fun.
Saturday, July 11: Sardines, Foam, and Fireworks
On Saturday, the festivities will continue from early afternoon with a tasting of sardines, one of the summer's star dishes on the coast. The traditional Foam Party, sponsored by Atracciones Paquito, will be one of the most eagerly awaited moments for the younger crowd. Additionally, there will be dance academy performances, a zumba session led by Gema and Jotxan, and a musical performance by Salvador García «Pitu».
Children will have their own space with activities led by Amapola and Perdigón, who will entertain the afternoon with games and workshops. The fair will conclude with a fireworks display that will light up the sky over the neighbourhood and provide a fitting finale to two days of celebration.
Luis Ponce and Elena Gálvez have expressed their gratitude to the Friends of Los Poetas Residents' Association for their involvement and have invited all Nerjeños and visitors to participate. "It is a festival that brings together community, tradition, and entertainment for the whole family," they stated. The fair thus consolidates itself as a landmark in Nerja's festive calendar, attracting hundreds of people each year who seek to enjoy the summer atmosphere in a unique setting.
For the residents of the Barriada de Los Poetas, the fair represents a moment of gathering and local pride. The organisation has worked for months to offer a varied programme that caters to all ages, from the older generation who remember the fairs of yesteryear to the children who experience the festival with excitement. This event has become a tradition that, year after year, proves that simplicity and authenticity still have a strong appeal.
The San Cristóbal festivities also provide an opportunity to boost the local economy, with the participation of local businesses and hospitality providers. Attendees will be able to enjoy food and drink stalls, as well as children's attractions that will be set up in the fairgrounds. Admission is free, and it is recommended to arrive early to enjoy all the activities.
