The village of Maro, in Nerja, bid farewell this Tuesday to its Fair with the procession of its patroness, the Virgin of Wonders, after five days of festivities. The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, thanked the participation and efforts of the involved groups.
The village of Maro, in the municipality of Nerja, concluded this Tuesday its Fair 2026 with the traditional procession of the Virgin of Wonders, the patroness of the locality. During the procession, the locals welcomed the image with a shower of petals as it passed through the streets of the village, in a display of devotion that wrapped up five days of celebrations.
The mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, praised "the magnificent participation of the residents of Maro, Nerja, and visitors throughout all the days of the Fair" and thanked the efforts of the local mayor of Maro, the councillor for Major Festivities, the Festivities Committee, and the Parish Council, as well as the Municipal Services, the Local Police, Civil Protection, and the associations and groups that collaborated in the organisation.
"They have once again demonstrated the affection and deep devotion that Maro feels for its Patroness, the Virgin of Wonders," said the mayor, who congratulated the locals for keeping their traditions alive.
The procession capped off a programme that over five days combined activities for all audiences, with community and tradition as the main themes. The Maro Fair is one of the most deeply rooted festive events in the Nerja calendar, and its final day once again gathered hundreds of people around the patroness.
