The Nerja Town Council has received the partial stabilisation works on the western slope of the Balcón de Europa cliff. The works, funded by the Junta de Andalucía, have involved an investment of €66,066.

The Nerja Town Council has declared the partial stabilisation works on the western slope of the Balcón de Europa cliff as completed. The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, signed the reception act for the works that have reinforced the safety of the terrain and prevent landslides in this emblematic stretch of the Nerja coastline.

The intervention has been carried out over an area of 300 square metres in the slope area adjacent to La Caletilla beach. Workers have cleaned and removed unstable materials, subsequently installing a protective mesh of triple twist galvanised wire, secured with 24 bolts anchored 8 metres deep and steel cabling.

The works have been completed with a landscape restoration using native species to integrate the intervention with the natural environment. The mayor highlighted that "the intervention allows us to continue caring for the environment of the Balcón de Europa and ensure the stability of the cliff, preserving its landscape values."

The project has involved a total expenditure of €66,066, fully funded by the Territorial Delegation of Tourism of the Junta de Andalucía through the grant for Tourist Municipalities. This line of aid is aimed at the conservation of cultural spaces and points of visitor interest.

As it is a protected environment of high heritage value, the works have received the corresponding authorisation from the Territorial Delegation of Culture to ensure maximum respect for the landscape of the Balcón de Europa. The Nerja council has emphasised that this is a necessary action to preserve one of the main tourist attractions of the locality.

The Balcón de Europa, a natural viewpoint over the Mediterranean Sea, receives thousands of visitors each year and is a symbol of the municipality. With this action, the Town Council aims to prevent incidents and maintain this space in optimal conditions, which is part of the cultural and landscape heritage of Nerja.

The works have been carried out over the last few weeks and have been supervised by municipal technical services. The awarded company has met the established deadlines, as confirmed by the Council. Now, the area is completely secured and ready for public use.

Mayor Armijo has thanked the Junta de Andalucía for its financial collaboration and has indicated that the Town Council will continue to seek aid to maintain the public spaces of the municipality in good condition. The grant for Tourist Municipalities is one of the most important funding avenues for towns like Nerja, which largely depend on tourism.

With this intervention, the Nerja Council takes another step in the conservation of its coastline, following similar actions carried out in previous years at various points in the municipality. The plan is to continue with periodic maintenance work to ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
