The athlete from Antequera Pepi Sánchez Quintana has been crowned world champion in the 400 meters in her category at the Master Athletics World Championship held in Daegu (South Korea).
At the age of 76, the sportswoman adds another international success that the Town Hall of Antequera has wanted to publicly acknowledge. The mayor, Manolo Barón, and the deputy mayor in charge of Sports, Juan Rosas, have personally congratulated the athlete, with whom they met before her departure to Asia to support her in the challenge.
“When an Antequeran like Pepi represents our city in an international competition and does so by achieving the title of world champion, the success is hers, but it is also a reason for joy and pride for all Antequerans,” noted Manolo Barón.
The mayor added that supporting athletes “regardless of their age, means betting on the values of sport” and has pointed to Pepi as an example: “She shows us that age can never be an excuse to stop pursuing our dreams.”
The athlete from Antequera writes another brilliant page in the sporting history of the town, which already celebrated her previous success at the championship held in Sweden in 2024.
